Welcome to the first Annual(???) Rurouni Kenshin Reader's Choice Awards. The whole opperation is being overseen by Sekihara Tae, and is fully sponsered by the Administration of KFFDisc.

1. Any Rurouni Kenshin fic in existence is eligible for participation in the 1999 Reader's Choice awards.

2. The Awards Committee will reject any nomination which does not meet the criteria for inclusion in the specified category. Award Category criteria and definitions are available here.

3. Stories are only eligible for the 'Fanfic of the Year' category in the year they are completed. All completed stories -- regardless of participation as an in-progress fic in years prior -- will be eligible.

4. The nomination period ends at 12:00 AM PST on Monday, December 27th (midnight on Sunday, December 26th). Nominations time-stamped after the deadline will be rejected.

5. In order to appear in the voting list, each fic nomination must be seconded. Two nominations for the same fic in the same category will suffice. Each nomination must also be acknowledged by the author.

6. Authors will have until 12:00 PM PST (noon) on Friday, December 31st to accept or reject any nomination. Lack of response will constitute rejection.

7. Any given individual may make no more than two nominations to a given category, however he or she may second any number of nominations submitted by others.

8. Authors may nominate or second their own story, but they cannot do both, and are encouraged to consider carefully before doing either.

9. All nominations will be tracked by the submitter's email address. Use of multiple aliases is prohibited.

10. Authors are free to accept up to two nominations in a specific category, and may reject any and all nominations as they see fit. Note, however, that the Awards Committee has ruled that no given fic should be eligible for the same awards more than once. As such, completed fanfic will not be eligible for award consideration in subsequent years regardless of whether or not the author accepts the nomination. If the author of an in-progress fic accepts one or more nominations, that acceptance negates eligibility in any category save 'Fanfic of the Year' upon completion.

11. At least five nominations are required in any given category before a vote will be held to determine the winner. If there are fewer than five nominations, each nominee will be awarded an 'Honorable Mention' banner to post on their webpage in conjunction with the nominated story. Honorable mention banners will be silver, award banners will be gold.

12. No more than ten nominations will be accepted to a given category. If there are more than ten nominations, an initial poll will be held to thin the nominations to an acceptable number. Such thinning will delay the start of the voting period; as such, both readers and authors are encouraged to adhere to the spirit of the awards, and nominate based solely upon fic quality.

13. Voting will take place via an automated poll. Unless delayed by excess nominations, the online polls will open on January 1st, and run until midnight on January 31st. The award winners will be notified by the Awards Committee no later than February 5th.

All questions, nominations, and author responses should be sent to the RK Reader's Choice Awards mailing list: rkreaders@egroups.com. The following information should be included in all nominations:

Fanfic Title
Author
Author's Email
Web Location (if available)
Award Category

NOTE: Mailing list membership is restricted and the archives are private. All nominations will be considered confidential unless otherwise requested, or an Awards Committee decision is contested. The Awards Committee will notify all authors of their nominations via email. In addition, a daily summary will be posted to KFFDisc, and the awards webpage updated weekly with the nominees in each category.

Still to come: The voting booth!! Experiments must be preformed first to see if it is possible to link the booth to more then one website...Tae-san is our wonderful mad scientist on this experiment.
