Note:
This is an altered version of the rules that can be found at the original
KFFDisc, and RKFF hompages, as writen by the list owner, Meimi. It has
been upgraded to fit the volume of posts the list has now.
This
list of rules may be subject to change, as felt is needed by the Admin.
Banning is subject to Meimi's judgement, which means as long as
you don't do anything monumentally stupid you'll be fine. DO NOT
talk back to Meimi or Kage if they tell you to stop. All
reprimands are made in public on the ML as Meimi has found
embarrassment helps to keep people from practicing stupidity.
Also,
along with reading these rules, Kage also suggests the "Fanfiction
vs. Copyright FAQ" which was also prepared by Meimi. Kage has added it
here because PLAGIARISM HAPPENS!
1) NO OFF TOPIC CHATTER: Topics should be related to the posting,
editting, beta reading and discussion of Kenshin fanfiction. This
DOES include the discussion of the Kenshin series storyline to a
point. Posts about when something's coming out, where you can get
fansubs, anime voice actors, other mailing lists, webpage ads, ect
ect. are NOT appropriate and are grounds for forced ejection from the
list. Character developments, clarification of certain events and
that sort of thing for the writing of a fanfic ARE what we're talking
about. If you want to talk about merchandise and ect. go find another
list!
2) Absolutely NO FLAMING or FLAMEBAIT will be tolerated. Flaming by
definition is a personal attack directed at someone else or someone
else's works. Suggestions, opinions and feedback are not flames
unless they include derogatory statements about someone or their
works. Flamebait by definition is something worded in such a way as
to encourage flames. Responding to FLAMES is also not tolerated. The
admins do not appreciate others doing their job. Anyone found in
violation of this rule will be booted off the list without any
warning and it is doubtful that the administrators will give second
chances.
3) DO NOT quote an entire fanfic OR email message just to make a
comment on it. If you must point something out please just include a
small portion of the part you're refering to. Also, when posting a
fanfic to the list, DO NOT do so as a reply to another message. Write
up a new email message with the title of your fanfic in the subject.
4) DO NOT make the fanfics attachments! Many people cannot receive
attachments and most email programs will write .txt files into the
email message.
4)
The administrators ask that you please DO NOT make the fanfics attachments
if you can avoid it as several people CANNOT receive attachments. Most
email programs will write .txt files into the email message, so please
try to observe this.
5) No misc. attachments are ALLOWED. This includes .zip, .wri, .doc
and ect. Any forementioned writing programs can and will convert to
.txt format.
6) All posts must be text only! Please be kind and format your email
messages and fanfics where others can read them without strains. 70
characters a line is the basic for most fanfics. When writing email
or fanfics where you are unsure if your wordwrap will break please
make a hard return at the end of each line. It's only a finger click
away and is much appreciated by the ML members.
7)All posts should be properly tagged. Observing this rule can save
EVERYONE a lot of time and trouble, especially the archivers.
Following, is a list of TAGS commonly used on the ML.
[ADMIN]
That means that this email is from either Meimi or Kage and that you
should read it immediately. No one but those designated as admin by
Meimi (the list owner) can use this tag; at this time the only other
designated admin is Kage. DO NOT reply publically to an ADMIN tagged
message, it annoys Meimi to no end and you really don't want to do
that.
[DO
NOT ARCHIVE]
This tag is especially important. Meimi and Kage will post all
fanfics not tagged with this to the Public ML Archive. If for some
reason you do not wish to have your fanfic archived in the public
archive, you must place this tag in the subject line. If you forget
and they archive it, ask them nicely to remove it, and they will. Any
flame sent their way about it, will most likely be ignored or, if the
flame is really nasty, or the sender will be banned from the mailing
list.
PLEASE NOTE: All fanfics, whether they are tagged with [DO NOT
ARCHIVE] or not, are archived at the PRIVATE ARCHIVE. That's why it's
PRIVATE.
[LEMON/HENTAI] and [ADULT ROMANCE]
Why these tags are needed should be obvious. LEMON/HENTAI fanfic
writers MUST put a warning IN the subject line AND in the fanfic
disclaimer of your fanfic. This is to warn off any who do not wish to
read such content. Lemons and hentai fanfics are by definition
fanfics with sex scene in them ranging from not too explicit to VERY
explicit (i.e. fanfics with homosexual sex are referred to by the
[YAOI] and [YURI/RESU] tags. Read the following paragraph about
them). The ADULT ROMANCE has been adopted by fanfic writers who feel
their fics are more 'romantic' than the [LEMON] or [HENTAI] tags
allow. Anyone found violating this rule can and will be booted off
the list without warning. If your fanfic contains situations or
language that some would find offensive please put a warning in the
disclaimer of your fanfic.
[YAOI/YURI/RESU]
Why these tags are needed should be obvious. YAOI/YURI/RESU fanfic
writers MUST put a warning IN the subject line AND in the fanfic
disclaimer of your fanfic. This is to warn off any who do not wish to
read such content. Yaoi fanfics are by definition fanfics with sex
scene in them between two or more men ranging from not too explicit
to VERY explicit. Yuri, Resu fanfics are by definition fanfics with
sex scene in them between two or more women ranging from not too
explicit to VERY explicit. Anyone found violating this rule can and
will be booted off the list without warning. If your fanfic contains
situations or language that some would find offensive please put a
warning in the disclaimer of your fanfic.
[SHOTACON]
Any fanfic with a young boy involved in sex or even a hint of it MUST
HAVE THIS TAG! There are some people who find this particular theme
very disturbing so the TAG is a MUST! Anyone found violating this
rule can and will be booted off the list without warning. If your
fanfic contains situations or language that some would find offensive
please put a warning in the disclaimer of your fanfic.
[REPOST]
and [REVISED]
If
you are re-posting an old chapter of a fanfic with a new chapter, please
label it with the [REPOST] tag. Add the [REVISED] tag as needed. This way
everyone who has already read it will not have to read it again.
[COMMENTS]
or [C&C], and [ANNOUNCMENT] If you are only posting comments for one
fanfic, please include the comment tag. That way only the author of the
fic, (and other curious individuals like myself) will know to read it.
However, whenever possible, comments for multiple fics should posted in
a single email. This cuts down on the email volume for people who don't
check their mail everyday. Announcements made on list should always have
something to do with Rurouni Kenshin fanfics. If you are announcing a web
page, or a fanart contest, etc, it must be RK fanfic related. And as always,
remember to tag it properly.
[INFO],
[INFO REQUEST]
Technically,
these are no longer allowed because of the creation of RK Resource ML.
Any questions on Japanese language or history should be sent there. Also,
please refer to the Resource Links section of this website before posting
any questions.
[SPOILER]
While usually a good idea when referring to a specific instance in
the anime/manga that may 'spoil' somebody, it's not a required tag
and Meimi doesn't care whether people are spoiled or not. Complaining
about a message that SPOILED you on something, will most likely annoy
Meimi as frankly, she thinks if you hate being spoiled you shouldn't
be reading fanfics until you've seen the entire series.
[SPAM] and [OT]
Don't ever, ever, EVER let Meimi or Kage see this tag on your email.
Said posts are NOT allowed and can be grounds for banning from the
list.
[DARK], [WAFF], [CROSSOVER], [X-OVER], [CONTIN], [ALT- UNI] ,
[SONGFIC], [VIDFIC], [ANGST], [PARODY] and [SPAMFIC] aren't required
tags, but are sometimes used to describe fanfics sent to the list.
Dark refers to a fanfic that has a darker tone the usual, WAFF stands
for “warm fuzzy feeling”. X-over and Crossover mean that more then
one series is involved. “Contin” is an abbreiviation for continuation
and means that the fanfic takes place after the end of the series.
Alt-Uni stands for Alternate Universe and means the fanfic takes
place in an entirely different universe from the original anime. Song
an Video fiction are stories that are written to songs, or written as
music videos. Angst…expect a tear-jerker, and don’t feel strange if
you find yourself pounding on the walls screaming “WHY???”. What a
parody is, is pretty obvious, ne? Spamfics can be a lot like
parodies. They tend to be under 10kb, and usually written either for
humor or shock value; a parody or short fic with a punchline.
Remember
to check back often, as this list of rules could be updated at anytime!
