I've just updated the audition page with two new rules, which will
hopefully move FFRP forward. I want to thank everyone for their words of encouragement and their
emails. I acted a tad pettishly (synonym: like a jerk) in the past few updates and I realize the
error of my ways. I'm willing to make a commitment, if you folks will.
Also, I'm considering a few ideas. The first is a tip jar. Well, that's a sort of
touchy subject. The second you talk money, this sort of thing gets complicated for obvious reasons.
But I don't think that's a problem. We're not looking to make a profit, but advance anime and have
fun in the process. But let's face it, this costs money. Some talented people can't justify a good
microphone or recording software, or hardware to even record their lines. I'd like implement a tip
jar to help some of these poor college type students out, maybe to create a pool of hardware at the
very least that can be reused and also, for you non voice actor types consider it an incentive to
get your favorite voice actors and writers to produce! Tell me
what you think of this.

Just to clear up any possible confusion: send auditions to
director@radioplay.org. Also a comment was
made in the guestbook that "the equipment costs money". Sure it does. But you probably
already have most of what you need except for one thing: a decent microphone. You probably
already have one if you game, use internet telephone applications or especially voice recognition.
I've been quite impressed with the quality of the microphones at Best Buy,
CompUSA,
Microcenter or even
Radioshack. Especially Radioshack, as they're selling some
OEM'd (made by the same company with a new sticker put on it) professional microphones made by AKG and Shure.
Personally, I use two SM58's when I record, a Mackie 1202VLZPro for mixing and an SBLive Platinum for recording.
The aspiring VA doesn't need all those gizmos, a headset mic and a generic soundcard are just fine.
Well, Anime Central is coming up and
yours truly will be there.

Whew! That one seemed to have touched something of a nerve.
Six emails over that last post, literally a deluge. Five in support and one
flame. I'm almost touched. (in the head maybe) So, what gets me is the one flame.
Ranma is Dead sucks rocks. Yea verily, it is an example unto which none shall follow.
So sayeth the poster who is far more knowledgeable than
I. Sure, it's not high quality, it's choppy and has odd cuts. But almost 98% of the cast
was/is made up entirely of fanfic authors. It's hard enough trying to get those
people to write their fanfics in some semblance of speediness, much less get
them to buy a decent mic, turn off the A.C., stop munching chips and celery
during takes, record at a decent bitrate... Well, not so much the celery...
You get the point I'm sure. It's not the best, but I presume somebody out there
liked it. But it's also a first for us. The second one I recorded was Nerima
Home Companion, using better equipment, and under a more controlled environment.
As time goes on, we learn.
Reading over my previous post, and yes, I was three sheets to
the wind on writing that one, I still pretty much agree with everything I said
if only to add the Caveat, radioplay's on this site. Cut me some slack,
my midichlorian count was way down.
Anywhositch, it warms my black heart that there are people
still interested in RP's. On a similar vein (black hearts and such) I recently
had yet another email crash, this time taking out almost a year's worth of mail.
(Over 800 to be precise.) To make a long story short, I'm looking for a script that
was sent to me that was rather clever and humorous script regarding Genom
Customer Support, so if you're out there dear writer, do drop me a line and an
extra copy of the script.
Now shoo. Go audition, or write a script or start your own play.

I've been receiving the odd email recently (do people
actually read this stuff?) about auditions, questions regarding the
status of FFRP and such, and I've come to realize I've been doing a great
disservice to all you hopeful VA's, writers, and Fans out there.
I'm an incurable lazy cuss, and classes and work
notwithstanding, I have next to zero time for fun stuff. And that time
is usually spent, well, watching anime or playing the odd game of R6.
So, I have come to something of a conclusion, if you will. I'm willing to
continue to work on the site, and add techsupport, to a qualified director,
casting-director and sound person. A PR person would be nice also.
Obviously, this is somewhat in the wishful thinking department, Fan based
radioplay's being in the state they are in, that is, somewhat stagnant in
my opinion. However, my other conclusion I've come to is that large
projects, notably Hearts of Ice and Taming of the Horse are simply not
possible given a huge lack of dedication by both directors (or producers,
or whatever) such as myself and notably VA's. Many a time, I receive
auditions from people with quite a talent for voice acting. I pick them,
receive two lines and that's the end of the story. Nada, nothing, zilch,
zip, zero... You get the idea. For instance, Ranma is Dead, as far as I
can tell, based on websearches &c. is the only completed (albeit short)
Ranma 1/2 radioplay there is. To be sure, there are tons of semi-complete
Sailor Moon RP's out there, and even a Tenchi Muyo christmas play, replete
with it's own touching, if cheesy, midi christmas music. But even that play,
as near as I can tell, was recorded by a bunch of friends over a weekend.
So as near as I can tell, RP's aren't do-able, or if they
are, there done in one shot. Well, anyways, this was meant to be a short
update, and now look at it. So prove me wrong.
Tell
me I'm wrong. Give me the feedback I crave like
(dare I say) a Cabbit on carrot withdrawal. (end ob. cutesy anime ref.)

Due to a crashed computer, I have lost all of my archived
email. If you have been selected as a VA for
any of our current projects, please send email to Maxwell_E and please include
your acceptance letter. (In whatever form that may be.) Also, if you have
auditioned for FFRP in the past, or would like to do
so now, please send your auditions to the above email address
(radioplay@ffmlsearch.com).
Also, I'm looking for short scripts (no more than five
minutes with SFX and music) as a sort of playlet experiment
much like Ranma is Dead, if you are interested in writing such a script,
please let me know. The requirements are that there be no
more than three characters, that it contains language that is appropriate
for a multitude of audiences and that it be anime.
