I don't think you needed to dumb down Ranma and Genma. They didn't spend all that time on the road so they actually did learn something other then just martial arts.
Reading this I would have to say Ranma and Ranco are still two halves of one person. It's looking more and more like they really should be one. The atraction is normal.
I do wonder abought his thinking of wishing everything back to the way it was. He listed reason for not doing it and not once losing his sister mentioned.
