Careful Destiny Story Archive

Below are all parts of Careful Destiny that have been released to date. Each part has three downloadable options (unformatted text, formatted text, MS Word) as well as an HTML formatted page to allow you to read all parts online. Links to a comment/criticism sheet for each part is included and I encourage anyone with a suggestion or an opinion to post them on those C&C sheets.

(Note: Due to continuing problems with fanfiction.net, I am obsolescing everything that has been posted to that entity and will instead host all online sections here by the end of 8/13/2005)

Careful Destiny Part One
"Ground Zero"

This is the one that starts it off. One day Ranma decides that he's finally fed up with his cursed life. Thanks to a little intervention from a benevolent (?) junk salesman in a shabby store in Nerima's shopping district, he is given a way to end his aquatransexuality. Accepting an offer that's too tempting to resist, Ranma makes drastic changes to his life. How does it turn out? Read the story and see! ^_-

Careful Destiny Part Two
"Appointment With Destiny"

The die is cast, and the challenge accepted. After seeing what his wish had wrought, Ranma decided anyway to embrace the promise that this new life seems to be offering him. It's not a perfect place, but he's decided to try to make right all of the things that have gone wrong, instead of returning to the cursed life that he'd grown weary of. What is really wrong, though? Is it the world he's living in, or is it Ranma himself? No one can escape his or her destiny, regardless of what is tried. Right?

"Regrets and Recriminations"

Things didn't quite turn out as Ranma had planned during school that day. But for him, foul ups are par for the course, and he's going to have to learn to take surprise in stride. New characters are introduced, and the situation gets remarkably complex for our martial-arts hero. What steps will Ranma have to take to make sure that his destiny is secure? Flying leaps, if he isn't careful...

Careful Destiny Part Four
"Under Construction"

Ranma's possibility of fatherhood casts a pall over his chances with Akane and the reunification of the Tendo and Saotome families. The repair party takes center stage as both dojo- and fence-mending are attempted, with hopeful results. Dark forces rise to the occasion as unseen powers take note of what is, and shouldn't be, happening in the world beneath them.

Careful Destiny Part Five
"Mending Fences"

Shampoo's arrival heralds the beginning of a tumultuous time for the Saotome and Tendo families. Dojo repair concludes under a cloud of uncertainty as the crew seeks to puzzle out their new "guest's" origin.   Also, some of them are forced to re-evaluate their perceptions of past events as well as change how they think of friends and/or family members.

Careful Destiny Part Six
"The Very Long Week of Ranma Saotome"
(with apologies to JMS ^_^; )

Ranma's luck changes for the worst as he winds up in the hot seat following multiple allegations of harassment from his classmates and his rival, Tatewaki Kuno.  As he and Sato both undergo the scrutiny of an official investigation, Ranko attempts to get to the bottom of the pregnancy mystery that has been dogging her big brother.  Also, Kinuko springs her surprise on Ranma with quite unanticipated results.

Careful Destiny Part Seven
"One Wrong Step"

Genma and Nodoka take off for an anniversary vacation getaway, leaving Ranma and Ranko alone at the house for the weekend. What should be a fun and relaxing break from school for the siblings instead turns into a time of major revelation for both of them. Meanwhile Sato tries to come to grips with what Nabiki had done to him on Friday, and his friend Hikaru Gosunkugi winds up doing a lot more this weekend than he had originally planned. Also, conspiracy abounds as the Kuno family as well as unknown others take an extreme amount of interest in the Saotome family.

Careful Destiny Part Eight
"The Cost of Apprehension"

Ranma and Akane's friendship grows as they begin to appreciate each other simply for whom they are. Meanwhile at the same time Nodoka and Genma's long-overdue vacation is interrupted suddenly and Nodoka finds herself confronting ghosts from the past. Decisions made by both Kuno and Ranma will affect the lives of everyone they know, and not necessarily for the best. Also, Nabiki begins to come to grips with what she and Hikaru had done over the weekend.

Careful Destiny Side Story #1
"Careless Destiny"

For awhile, many have asked me to provide a resolution to the sexual tension that I have inflicted upon Ranma and Ranko during the course of the story. I refuse to do that. However, I had always maintained on the FFML that if anyone felt up to the challenge, they had my permission to write a side-story which provided such resolution.
Well, someone took me up on my offer. Dave Eddy has managed to write a very good side-story for the Careful Destiny universe. I highly recommend reading Careless Destiny, as it fits well with the story (even though it's not part of the real timeline). Enjoy! (I know I did ^_- )

Careful Destiny Side Story #2
"Careless Destiny Part Two"

Dave Eddy brings to the fore his insurmountable talent to write very richly detailed lemons as he pens the second in a continuing series of stories surrounding Ranma and Ranko. This story continues where the first one left off, and as his author's notes have mentioned:

- this story branches off of "Careful Destiny" somewhere between the end of Part Four and the middle of Part Five - As of this update (07/6/2003) the story is incomplete
