Objective

To find employment in the field of server hardware and software support and administration with a focus on Storage Area Network implementation and administration.

Work Experience

Senior Information Resource Consultant
9/2001 - Present
State of South Carolina/DMV, Blythewood, SC

Responsibilities
  • I am responsible for the installation and management of Dell server hardware and Microsoft operating systems (Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows 2003) within both of our computer centers. Hardware installation involves anticipating power consumption within each rack and placing PDU's and UPSes to balance loads on circuits, and employing the use of cable management to allow for better tracing of each system's wiring. Operating system installations follow industry standard practices
  • Field office server infrastructure administrator. This involves using VNC, SMS Remote Control and Microsoft Terminal Services to remote manage systems that are distributed throughout the state. This duty also entails traveling to DMV Field Offices to replace damaged or obsolete server equipment on very short notice
  • Dell/EMC2 Storage Area Network Administrator. In addition I have participated in the installation of multiple CX-300 and CX-500 units at our headquarters location and at the state's main data center. (I have received training at Dell headquarters on the use of Navisphere's management tools and also have some experience with Brocade Fiber Switch zoning and management)
  • Trend/Micro Anti-virus suite Administrator
  • Captaris RightFAX Administrator
  • Domain Administrator, including account management. This role will be modified once the agency migrates to Active Directory some time in the second or third quarter
  • Microsoft SQL 7.0 and 2000 Server Administrator (database backups and server installations)
  • Microsoft Systems Management Server 2.0 Administrator
  • Microsoft Exchange 5.5 Server Administrator
  • Microsoft IIS 5 and 6 Server support and administration (www.scdmvonline.com)
  • Microsoft Windows Server Update Services Administrator
Accomplishments
  • Utilization of the WSUS server by clients in a Windows NT environment was problematic without the benefit of Active Directory group policies, however I discovered a workaround using a client-side registry modification that I pushed throughout the agency using SMS
  • Wrote custom VBscripts to track uptimes of over 155 servers statewide on the DMV WAN. Also used VBScript in conjunction with SMS to deploy updates of internally authored software to over 1200 systems in the DMV WAN
  • Utilized Norton Ghost in conjunction with Microsoft's SYSPREP utility to make Windows Server 2003 images for our fleet of over 70 servers in all field offices within the agency. Despite the fact that we still use an NT 4 domain, we are replacing dying domain controllers with Windows Server 2003 systems as a step towards Active Directory deployment
  • As of March 2006, the agency is still on an NT4 domain. I am currently drafting a logical as well as physical migration plan to bring the SCDMV network from NT4 to Active Directory 2003. Implementation is pending the completion of regression testing of all internally authored software packages within an AD lab environment as well as the completion of all legislation-based tasks.
