Caveat Lector: This story has been, and always will be, lime scented.
[That means 'adult content' for the newly-initiated in fanfic circles]

In some cases, it's full-on lemon.
In modern literary parlance it means that the content is 'open door', although in my case some scenes could be considered 'door taken off of hinges and the frame also completely removed'.
[That means the 'adult content' is explicit and must be avoided if laws in your state/country/region prohibit consuming such content. Seriously! Don't download it or read it unless you're of age.]

As much as possible, I have done what I could to ensure that it is not there simply for the sake of being gratuitous. I have also included tags in each part to mark out the most intense sections of adult content should someone want to skip it.

Content notices are included at the top of the first page for most parts of Careful Destiny.

Site News!

[9/30/26] Careful Destiny Part Thirteen has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page.

This part contains two moments of adult content, but they're much smaller compared to what was in Parts Ten and Eleven

As usual, cover creation has been handled thanks to multiple prompts within AI. Choosing the scene with Hikaru and Nabiki as the subject matter for the cover was a big gamble, but I decided it was worth it. Nabiki's uhh... unusual expression is inspired by a particular moment where she forces herself to examine him without her usual biases in place. I promise, she hasn't gone soft. She is, however learning to pull her punches, verbally speaking. She is still the conniving queen we've all come to know and love, so don't worry.

[9/10/26] Careful Destiny Part Twelve has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page.

This part contains no true adult content compared to the previous two parts, yet lime content persists

As usual, cover creation has been handled thanks to multiple prompts within AI. Choosing the dojo scene as the subject matter for the cover was probably the safest choice. Ranma's uhh... pectoral muscles were particularly flexed in the cover image. I promise, he doesn't have breasts. We'll just blame the top for flexing weirdly while he was doing a middle punch. Yeah, that's it...

[7/26/26] So much for taking a break... After being sidelined with an injury, I found I had more idle time than I expected, so my editing spree continued unabated.

Careful Destiny Part Eleven has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page.

This part contains even more adult content than Part Ten!

Once again, cover creation has been handled thanks to multiple prompts within AI. Choosing the three faces of Subara as the subject matter for the cover was done purely on a whim, but given the subtitle for this part, I thought it was appropriate. I added Ranma's flummoxed expression just for the fun of it. Besides, if I had a ninja living with me who looked like that, I'd get whiplash from all the double-takes...

[7/15/26] Careful Destiny Part Ten has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page.

This part contains a fair bit of adult content!

Also, Part Nine will be the last one to have a raw text ZIP file available since EPUB seems to be the preferred format. This is the second part of new content released for this story in 20 years. Once again, cover creation has been handled thanks to multiple prompts within AI. Sato and Ranko turned out better than I expected, plus we finally get a peek at the attic which has featured so prominently over several parts of Careful Destiny.

By the way... I think I'm going to take a break for a bit. I've been working for the past nine months on rehabilitating this story and I'm doing my best not to burn out. I still have a fair amount of 'mostly completed' content that is awaiting an editing pass, but I do still need to get some ideas down for the newest content. Last thing I need is writer's block at my age!

[7/05/26] Careful Destiny Part Nine has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page. This is the first new content released for this story in 20 years. Cover creation for the EPUBs has, of course, been handled thanks to multiple prompts within AI. I cannot draw a straight line with a ruler, so I won't even attempt something as lush as a book cover. Still, I like the way Kodachi turned out for the Part Nine cover.

Editing on Part Ten has commenced and that one should be available before too long. Fair warning, Part Ten will be the spiciest iteration of Careful Destiny ever released. It's fair to say that some of the content will be on par with Dave Eddy's timeless Careless Destiny. Of course, warnings and headers-footers will be placed around the strongest content. Again, that's not in this part, but the next one (or two) to come.

[6/24/26] Careful Destiny Part Eight has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page. Just like with Part Seven, it took forever to go through the document and refine it. I know I still missed stuff, it's just the way things are when you're your own editor... In this one, I pruned roughly 3700 words from the document and it remains readable... somehow.

[6/12/26] Careful Destiny Part Seven has been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page. Progress has been torturously slow because of how long it takes to go through the document and refine it. I know I still missed stuff... It's hell being your own editor. Anyway, I pruned roughly 2400 words from the document and somehow managed to leave the content more-or-less intact.

[4/24/26] Careful Destiny Parts One Through Six have been made available in EPUB format on the story archive page. The reason I did that is because I saw on a Reddit forum that someone had requested the story in that format and I thought "Oh, why not?"

After testing one of the EPUB conversions on my phone, I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the reader I use has a text-to-voice function which essentially turned my story into an audiobook. Holy cow!

Yeah, I'm old... Most of you probably already knew about that feature. I just never had a need to read EPUB-formatted books before today.

[4/23/26] Careful Destiny Part Nine has been made available for download on the story archive page (see menu to the left). This is the first new content released on this website in over 20 years. Sorry for the delay, and for those who have managed to stumble across this website... welcome back!

[4/17/26] Careful Destiny Parts Nine through Seventeen have been written, but are not yet available for download. I am, at this point, just now putting my toes in the water again after so long.

Notice: All previous versions of Careful Destiny are deprecated and any copies existing in any online archives are no longer authoritative. Many things were changed in the first eight parts of the story to better align with my original intent. Also, I decided to change the era in which the events of the story take place. The world of this story is now based in the year 2018, although as the story unfolds, you'll (eventually) see that it's not the 2018 we know.

When I get more time, and take care of some formatting issues for the files, I might begin posting the updated versions of parts one through eight.

For those who might be curious, click the "Story History" link to your left for more info on why I'm 'back' after so long.

[3/27/07] Careful Destiny Part Eight has been released and is available in three different formats as downloadable ZIP files. Also, an online version is no longer available in the Story Archive section of this site.

[8/12/05] Part Seven of Careful Destiny has been finished and is currently in beta status while the pre-readers have a long, hard look at it. The final product will be posted on the website as soon as they're done.

Also of note: The Story Archive page has been modified to include C&C sheet links. Comments and suggestions are welcomed *not-quite-pitiful-look* ^_^
